College Credit
Current Columbia College Chicago students will receive college credit for enrolling and successfully completing the Comedy Studies programs. Students from colleges other than Columbia should work with the academic advisors of their home institution on how to submit information for credit transfer.
Housing
Non-Columbia College Chicago students in the Comedy Studies program must secure their own housing for the semester in Chicago. The college is not able to make its dormitory rooms available. Another resource is the Chicago Reader, a free weekly newspaper with extensive apartment rental listings. The paper is published on Thursdays, but the apartment rental information is posted on their website, www.chicagoreader.com, each Tuesday evening.
Financial Aid
Students who wish to apply for financial assistance, must work with their home college or university financial aid office to submit an application. Columbia College Chicago’s office of student financial services is unable to assist students who are not full time, matriculating students of the college with their financial assistance packages.
Class and Performance Location
The Second City Training Center is located at 1608 N. Wells Street, Piper’s Alley 4th floor, at the corner of North Avenue and Wells Street in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. There are many restaurants, shops and other attractions in the immediate vicinity. The city’s expansive Lincoln Park is located two blocks east with gardens, bike paths, sports facilities, museums, zoo and the famous lakefront and North Avenue beach nearby. Other neighborhoods close to Second City include Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, Lakeview, Wicker Park, and Bucktown.
Navigating Chicago
The city is laid out on a grid. Eight city blocks equals one mile. North and south designations start at Madison Street in the downtown Loop district, and east and west designations start with State Street. Second City is located at North Avenue (1600 north) and Wells Street (200 west) so it is two miles north of Madison and two blocks west of State. The grid pattern makes it easy to find most locations in the city.
Getting Around Chicago
Chicago has a comprehensive public transportation system of subways and bus lines. You generally can get around the city easily without a car. Complete public transit information is available through Chicago Transit Authority. Second City is easily accessible by public transportation with the Brown line Sedgwick stop two blocks west and a number of bus lines that run stop close by. The city also encourages bicycle riding and has numerous bike paths and designated lanes for bicyclists.
